madisonsnow.jpg Much of southern Wisconsin is bracing for a major winter storm. Meteorologist Brian Olson with Weather Central expects snow to beginning falling across the region tonight.

Olson says the heaviest snowfall will come between the hours of 2:00 and 8:00 A.M., with amounts that will likely mean students will begin their holiday break a day early, with at least six inches on the ground in Madison, and perhaps as many as eight inches.

Snowfall amounts to the south of Madison will be higher: Olson says Rock County could receive up to a foot. The good news? The snow will be relatively light and fluffy. The bad news? More snow is on the way for the weekend.
