Authorities in Manitowoc County says they have taken down the largest marijuana-growing operation ever discovered in the area.
About 285 marijuana plants were seized a week ago by the Metro Drug Unit on land near the Town of Mishicot. Many of the plants were as high as seven feet tall. Officials say the plants were capable of producing up to 200 pounds of marijuana, which had a resale value of up to $500,000.
Officials say the pot was being grown on eight pieces of land, with trees being used to hide the plants. The sheriff’s department says they found the grow operation after receiving a tip from the state Department of Natural Resources.
Police say the 49-year-old owner of the land admitted to growing the plants. He’s not currently in custody and the investigation is ongoing. The sheriff’s department says it could be up to a month before any charges are filed.
