The American Red Cross is dealing with a worse than normal summer shortage of blood donors. Katie Gaynor is with the Red Cross Badger Hawkeye Region said there is an urgent need for eligible donors with O negative, B negative and A negative blood to give now, to prevent an emergency situation.

During the school year, students make up to 25 percent of blood donors. Overall donations for June and July in the Badger-Hawkeye Region, serving Wisconsin, the Upper Peninsula and parts of Iowa and Illinois, were nearly 2,000 fewer per month than the previous 10 months. There’s a free mobile app available from the Red Cross to make it easy to find a blood drive in your area.
