A coalition of groups pushing for transportation reform say the next president will need to make major changes.

The group Transportation for America says our transit systems face many challenges in the coming years, as roads where down, fuel costs rise, and the need for clean energy technology grows.

Bruce Speight is with WISPIRG, a partner in the coalition. He says members want the next U.S. president to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels, improve existing roads, and expand public transportation options. He says the federal government needs to encourage states to explore clean energy technologies and transportation methods.

Wisconsin Alliance of Cities executive director Ed Huck says the nation's current transportation policies have just about run their course and it's clear changes are needed. He says we need to find a new direction.

Huck says the federal government needs to lead the way for state and local leaders.
