A judge will decide before opening statements Saturday in the Weston prayer death trial whether the mother should be allowed to wear religious symbols. Prosecutors want the judge to prohibit Leilani Neumann from displaying religious symbols during her trial.

They argue in a motion filed today that the symbols aren't evidence but could be improperly used by a jury to assess her piety. Concealing such displays, they add, would not interfere with her religious practices and would lead to a fair and impartial trial.

Judge Vincent Howard will rule Saturday on that motion and requests to allow two witnesses to appear by phone and to prohibit the testimony of a defense expert witness.
