Human remains found by hunters in Brown County last week has been identified as those of a woman who went missing nearly five years ago.
Officials say the remains are those of 32-year-old Areerat Chuprvich, a native of Thailand who was taking classes at Saint Norbert College when she disappeared. Chuprvich was last seen in April of 2003 and her car was found at a bar in Allouez.
Brown County Chief Deputy John Gossage says Chuprvich was shot in the head and her death is being treated as a homicide. Police do have a person of interest in the case, which they have identified as Karl McCloud. However, McCloud hung himself at the Wisconsin Resource Corrections Facility in Oshkosh in 2006. He was serving a 10-year prison sentence for an unrelated robbery and beating.
Gossage says they are working to determine if this was a random act, or if McCloud had any connection to the property in Morrison where Chuprvich's remains were found in a shallow grave.
Gossage says they're asking anyone with information to call the sheriff's department.
