According to ESPN‘s Adam Schefter, the Green Bay Packers are nearing a contract extension with linebacker Clay Matthews. The story cites
sources that say a new deal would come in at or north of $13-million a year.
The 26-year-old Matthews has 42.5 sacks in his four seasons with the Packers, including 13 last season. He has 204 tackles, seven forced fumbles and four interceptions in 58 career games since being drafted 26th overall in the 2009 draft out of USC.
The Packers were reported to last week, be close to a deal with QB Aaron Rodgers. Nothing has changed in those talks, which still has the two sides separated by yearly income.
When asked about the negotiations, Rodgers told a Milwaukee radio station, “We’ll see what happens here. I don’t have an answer for you.”
