A new report shows progress is being made in the fight against cancer in the Badger State. Allison Miller with the American Cancer Society says the study using figures from between 1997 and 2007 found new cancer cases in Wisconsin dropped 14-percent for men and seven-percent for women.

Cancer deaths during that same time period declined 11-percent for men and eight-percent for women.

Miller says early detection and treatment, along with better prevention programs, played a role in reducing rates. She says the state’s smoking ban will also help in the years ahead.
