A new report shows Wisconsin state agencies were contracting out more work during the last fiscal year.

The state Department of Administration reported that overall contracting increased 7.5 percent during the fiscal year that ended June 30, from $565 million to $607 million. UW System contracting was up by 8.6 percent, from $114 million to $123 million. State agencies spent $483 million, with the Department of Health Services spending the most – $191 million.

The DOA report recommends agencies continue to examine using state workers before contracting for IT services. It also suggested that using a common contractor across agencies for similar tasks could result in significant savings.
