Republicans did well at the top of the ticket in Wisconsin, while also gaining some ground in the state Legislature. The GOP added to its majorities in both the state Assembly and the Senate in Tuesday’s election.
The party gained a seat in the Assembly, with a surprise win in the 92nd district as Republican Treig Pronschinske defeated incumbent Democrat Chris Danou of Trempealeau. The win gives Republicans a 64-35 majority in the chamber. All other seats remained under current party control.
The Senate majority also grew to at least 20 of the 33 seats, after Democratic incumbent Julie Lassa of Stevens Point lost her race to Republican challenger Pat Testin. Dan Feyen of Fond du Lac claimed a vacant seat in the 18th Senate District.
Unofficial returns show Senate Minority Leader Jennifer Shilling (D-La Crosse) had only a narrow margin victory in the 32nd District over GOP challenger Dan Kapanke, although the race could be headed to a recount.
