The Governor says it's not yet known when water will return to Lake Delton .

The lake near the Wisconsin Dells area overflowed on Monday, emptying much of its water into the Wisconsin River. Governor Jim Doyle says it's important that the lake be refilled soon, since so many jobs in the tourist community depend on it being there. Doyle says he wants to see it done as quickly as possible.

Engineers have been inspecting what caused the lake to drain, and the Governor says they believe they know how to restore it. Doyle says blocking the new pathway the river cut after heavy rains would send the water back in to Lake Delton, potentially filling it back up in just a couple of weeks.

However, the Governor says it's unclear if the water will return in time for the busy tourist season. He's hoping to know within the next few days when it will be possible.
