Republicans are predicting that Governor Doyle will again try to pass a tax on Big Oil.

The Governor is expected to deliver his budget message to the Legislature on Tuesday, and Assembly Minority Leader Jeff Fitzgerald (R-Horicon) is expecting it to include a tax on oil company profits.

The Governor attempted to pass the tax last session, which included a provision prohibiting the cost from being passed on to consumers. Fitzgerald says other states have attempted to pass similar provisions, which have been struck down in the courts.

Fitzgerald says Wisconsin is facing a huge budget deficit, and the state shouldn't be running up large legal fees to fight a "losing cause."
