The state’s largest pro-life group looks forward to a productive legislative session, thanks to Republican majorities in the state Senate and Assembly. Susan Armacost, legislative affairs director with Wisconsin Right to Life, said the group is in the best position in years to see it’s pro-life agenda advanced. “The Assembly and the Senate and the governor’s office all in the hands of individuals who really and truly respect human life,” said Armacost. “We couldn’t be happier about that.”

WRTL’s highest priority will be to prevent elective abortions from being paid for by taxpayer money under provisions of the federal health care reform. “States are allowed to opt out of abortion coverage in the state-based insurance exchanges that have been created by the health care plan, and that is what we’re focused on, to make sure that there are no taxpayer funded abortions here in the state of Wisconsin,” said Armacost. She said legislation is already in the works, from state Representative Robin Vos and state Senator-elect Rich Zipperer. Armacost said her group understands, however, that jobs and economic recovery are likely to receive priority attention when lawmakers begin work in January.
