Democratic control of the Legislature is sparking new hope for election reform.

Wisconsin Democracy Campaign Executive Director Mike McCabe says the votes are there to push through at least two major election reforms at the Capitol. The first would require funding disclosures for special interest groups and their electioneering activities and the second would publicly finance state Supreme Court races.

McCabe more than half of the new Legislature is already on record as supporting those issues. He says it would require some major flip-flopping from lawmakers to prevent their passage.

Despite concerns that the budget could over-shadow those measures, McCabe believes they'll see quick action. He says it would not take much effort for lawmakers to bring both bills up for a vote right away.
