Aaron Rodgers put all of the Brett Favre hoopla behind him and got the preseason off to a good start. The Green Bay Packers lost their preseason opener, 20-17 to the Cincinnati Bengals, but Rodgers opened the exhibition schedule looking good. He finished the night 9 of 15 for 117 yards, 1 TD and 1 interception. But those numbers could have been much better. The interception was a ball that hit a Packers receiver right in the chest. There were a couple of drops in their as well and Rodgers also threw two balls away. The offense had their share of mistakes, but Rodgers was solid, which is encouraging.
His replacements did OK in their pro football debuts. Brian Brohm finished 8 of 17 for 70 yards and one interception and Matt Flynn was 12 for 21 for 97 yards and a touchdown.
Brandon Jackson rushed for 44 yards on 6 carries, but missed a blitz pickup, which led to one of two Aaron Rodgers sacks.
Packers coach Mike McCarthy said he's satisfied with the start, but cautioned that there's still a lot of work to be done.
Defensively, the Packers held the Bengals without a first down on their first three possessions.
