Yovani Gallardo pitched his 14th quality start of the season, pitching 7 2/3 innings and left with a 1-0 lead.  On came the reliable Francisco Rodriguez in the 9th to try to lock down his 30th save and a fifth straight win for the Milwaukee Brewers.  Not so fast.

Rodriguez surrendered a double, a single and then Lucas Duda’s go-ahead home run in the 9th and the Brewers went on to lose 3-2 to the New York Mets.

Gallardo allowed just four hits, struck out eight and had no walks.  It was his best start of the season.  But the result for Gallardo is another no-decision and his record stays 5-5.

The Brewers did put the tying run on base in the bottom of the ninth when Mets reliever Henrry Mejia walked Jonathan Lucroy.  But Logan Schafer, pinch-hitting in the pitcher’s spot, fouled off a bunt attempt for strike three.  Carlos Gomez and Rickie Weeks followed with swinging strikeouts and the Brewers four game winning streak is history.

Gomez delivered his 15th home run of the season in the seventh off of Mets starter Zach Wheeler, giving the Brewers a 2-0 lead.  The Brewers have now hit at least one home run in four straight games.

Game 3 of the series is tonight.  Wily Peralta (11-6, 3.58) pitches for the Brewers.  Jonathan Niese (5-5, 3.13) goes for the Mets.
