The San Francisco Giants scored seven runs in the sixth inning and rebounded from a 4-1 deficit to knock off the Milwaukee Brewers 8-4 in their series opener at Miller Park on Monday afternoon.
The Brewers got a pair of solo home runs from Khris Davis and a 2-run blast by Ryan Braun in the 5th to jump out early on the Giants.
Kyle Lohse struck out Angel Pagan to open the sixth inning before the Giants went on a tear. Four Brewer pitchers gave up seven runs on seven hits with a pair of walks. Lohse wound up taking the loss, falling to 3-5.
Khris Davis started the scoring for the Brewers when he homered to right. But before Giants starter Tim Lincecum threw his next pitch, the Giants felt Davis didn’t touch home plate and appealed. The home plate umpire agreed and ruled Davis out. That forced Brewers skipper Craig Counsell to use a review which went the Brewers way.
Davis homered again in the bottom of the third before Braun sent a blast to left, some 474 feet over the bleachers. The home run was tied for the third-longest in the Major Leagues this season and the fourth longest in Miller Park history. Russell Branyan owns the longest home run of 480 feet in 2004. Prince Fielder clubbed a pair of 475 foot shots.
After the Giants seven run sixth, the momentum shifted and the Brewers would go without a hit the rest of the way.
