There are fewer lead-footed drivers in Wisconsin so far this year.

Ralph Sirmons, a program manager for the DOT, says there were just over 46,000 Wisconsin motorists ticketed for speeding during the first quarter of this year.

Speeding tops the list of traffic violations, but the numbers are down a bit from the same period last year. Sirmons says that's likely due to poor driving conditions during heavy storms this past winter. Still, Sirmons says most of the ticketed drivers were driving 11 to 19 miles per hour over the speed limit.

The second most traffic convictions were for driving on a suspended license. Not being buckled up was third.
