A Kenosha man has received a life sentence in the death of his toddler daughter.

Kenosha County Judge Bruce Schroeder called 35 year-old Russell Rose, Jr. “insane,” while Rose labeled himself “a monster, not human.” During his sentencing on Thursday, Rose made little sense during a  six minute statement, which included saying he killed the baby to prevent her from suffering on Earth.

A jury deliberated for just 90 minutes in October, before reaching guilty verdicts on all seven charges that had been filed against Rose in connection with his daughter’s death in November, 2014.

Schroeder gave Rose the mandatory life prison term for the death of the child, with no chance of parole by tacking on 81 additional years for related crimes. But also said “the sentence doesn’t reflect what ought to occur.”

The death of Serenity Rose happened as her mother, April Lampy, was also attacked – with a neighbor’s intervention likely saving Lampy’s life.
