The Arizona shootings have raised all kinds of discussion about tighter security at Congressional listening sessions, like those Paul Ryan’s holds each year around the first district. The Janesville Republican says the shooting “hits home” and calls it the actions of a deranged person.
“We all get mail from people like this and we’ve all run into people like this. But you just usually don’t think people will do something like this and unfortunately this guy did.”
Ryan says although there will be more security during his gatherings with constituents he has no intention of making drastic changes. The 1st District Congressman says whatever steps that get taken will not be the kind that “drive a wedge between me and my employers.”
Ryan says the health care repeal vote was likely going to come up this week, but in light of the Arizona shootings, that has been pushed back to next week.
