A fast rising GOP star says voters simply fired their politicians. Congressman Paul Ryan says his party’s sweep in the general election is not necessarily a “validation” for the Republican Party.
“I don’t think people came out and said, ‘I love Republicans so much I’m voting for Republicans.’ That is not what this is. This is a repudiation of the direction the President, and his party, have taken the country,” says the lawmaker, now elected to his seventh term.
The Janesville Republican easily cruised to victory Tuesday over Democrat John H. Heckenlively and Libertarian Joseph Kexel.
Ryan says all the people he talks to in Southern Wisconsin are concerned with out-of-control spending by the government. He notes Republicans were fired in 2006 for many of the same reasons.
The Badger State was the only one in the nation where Democrats lost the governor’s office, an entire Legislature, a US Senate seat, and a majority in the state’s House delegation.
