The U.S. Small Business Administration has approved a disaster declaration for Grant County and surrounding areas in southeastern Wisconsin.
The declaration comes at the request of Governor Scott Walker, after tornadoes and severe storms swept through the region last month and caused widespread damage. It means residents and businesses in Grant County will be able to apply for federal low interest disaster loans from the SBA to help pay for repairs. Contiguous areas also included in the declaration are Crawford, Iowa, Lafayette, and Richland counties.
SBA officials conducted damage assessments in the area earlier this month and determined that Grant County met the required threshold for assistance. Loans of up to $200,000 will be available to homeowners to repair or replace damaged or destroyed real estate, while businesses and non-profits can borrow up to $2 million.
