The S.C. Johnson Research Tower in Racine, the 15 story brick and glass tube building designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, will be open to the public the first time, beginning next month.
Researchers created such iconic products as Raid, Pledge, Glade and Off in the building, which, for the most part, was closed in 1982. It recently underwent an extensive renovation that included replacing more than 21,000 bricks and more than 5,800 Pyrex glass tubes that make up the distinctive window bands.
During a sneak preview for the media, Greg Anderegg, Director of Global Community Affairs, says the company is delighted to finally open the building to the public.
Anderegg says the tours are already very popular. “Through June our Friday and Saturday tours are at about 94 percent capacity already. So, actually, starting next weekend, we’re gonna be opening up on Sunday afternoons, as well. So that will open up some more opportunities for people to come.”
Reservations are recommended for the tours, which will continue through September, however, walk-ins will be welcome if space is available.
