Central Wisconsin residents are being targeted with another scam. Neillsville Police Chief Brad Lindner says one area resident fell victim to the mail scam; another was contacted, but called the cops. Lindner says it works like this; residents receive notification from a "casino promotions" company. They're told they've been randomly selected to win a $50,000 sweepstakes, and are sent a real looking, but counterfeit, check. They are asked to cash the check. They're allowed to keep a small amount and they're supposed to return the rest of the money to an unknown source. Lindner says a good thing to remember is you'll never win a contest you haven't entered. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. [from Paul Knoff, WCCN ]
