Schofield-based Greenheck Corporation is laying off 164 employees.
The company announced the job layoffs because of fewer orders in North America for its ventilation equipment. Vice president for human resources Jon Krueger says the company continues to grow, but is in the midst of a tough economic crisis.
Krueger says the company gave a severance package to the 53 office workers it laid off today. He says 111 factory workers in Schofield will lose their job in early January.
Krueger says employees will be eligible for unemployment benefits and job placement services.
The layoffs come despite a 15-percent increase in overall sales last year. Krueger says growth has just slowed down too much, despite adding over 700 jobs across the country in the last three years.
The layoffs represent 6 percent of the company's 2,800 member workforce.
