The Government Accountability Board has revealed the previously undisclosed location where recall petitions are under review.
The work is being done at the State of Wisconsin Central Services Building in Madison. The gray brick building is surrounded by fences and located about two miles away from the Capitol. The location was kept secret since the petitions were turned in last month, citing a need for security until all pages were scanned.
About 50 GAB employees have spent the past month reviewing recall petitions turned in against Governor Scott Walker, the lieutenant governor and four Republican state senators. Capitol Police are providing security while the staff works to verify signatures.
An off-site contractor is also doing data entry to help the GAB search petitions for duplicate signatures.
After that work is complete, the agency will determine if enough valid signatures were submitted to trigger recall elections for the six offices targeted.
