The state Senate has passed legislation requiring regular updates from the Department of Transportation, following a state audit that found the agency regularly underestimated the costs of projects.
The nonpartisan audit found costs for big projects doubled between planning and completion. The legislation approved Wednesday would require regular agency every six months, so lawmakers can know about project delays and rising costs.
The bill now heads to the Assembly.
