Concealed carry is up for a state Senate vote today. This bill (SB 93) is not the unrestricted ‘constitutional carry’ some handgun advocates have been calling for – the measure requires those who want to carry concealed to get some training and obtain a permit from the state. It does not call for creation of a database of permit holders which would be accessible by law enforcement agencies. Business owners would be able to post their premises, barring guns inside. It also eliminates the prohibition on carrying guns within one-thousand feet of a school, but still prohibits them on school grounds. Wisconsin and Illinois are the only two states which ban law abiding citizens from carrying concealed weapons. Governor Scott Walker supports the bill.
