State Senator Mark Miller (D-Monona) is introducing legislation that would create a healthcare system covering all Wisconsin residents. The plan would take money from taxes and private health insurance plans, placing it into a state run health insurance pool. Any Wisconsinite who has been a state resident for at least six months would qualify for insurance under the program.

The Monona Democrat says the plan could save citizens millions, by cutting down on the amount of healthcare dollars that go towards covering administrative costs. Miller says up to 35 percent of healthcare dollars go towards administration of programs.

Similar proposals in the past have been held up by opposition from the insurance industry. Miller believes the new Democratic majority in the Senate could help advance his legislation this time around.
