A state lawmaker wants to limit who's eligible for food stamps.

State Senator Glenn Grothman (R-West Bend) is upset with a provision placed in the budget by Senate Democrats, which removed a work requirement for able-bodied people to get the stamps. Grothman says it will encourage a life of sloth and dependence for many recipients. He says the provision would make Wisconsin one of only two states that allows you to get food stamps without looking for a job, which could make us a "welfare magnet" for people from neighboring states.

Grothman is asking majority Republicans in the Assembly to restore the job-training requirement.
