The Green Bay Packers returned to the practice field on Wednesday with veteran

Seneca Wallace

Seneca Wallace

Seneca Wallace taking first-team reps at quarterback.  He’ll start on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles after Aaron Rodgers was lost for the next month or more with a broken collarbone.

Wallace will be making his first start since Jan. 1, 2012 when he was with the Cleveland Browns.

He entered Monday nights 27-20 loss to the Chicago Bears in the first quarter after Rodgers left with his shoulder injury.

Mike McCarthy is drawing from his experience with quarterback Matt Flynn in 2010 when he started against New England and almost beat the Patriots.  Flynn completed 24 of 37 passes for 251 yards and three touchdowns with one interception in a 31-27 defeat.

Mike McCarthy and GM Ted Thompson went looking for a quarterback with West Coast experience after releasing Graham Harrell, B.J. Coleman and Vince Young.

The Packers have enough talent to beat the Eagles on Sunday, but Wallace has to hold up his end of the deal.

Philadelphia is hot offensively though.  Nick Foles threw seven touchdown passes in a win last week over Oakland and was named the NFC’s Offensive Player of the Week.  The Packers need to get more pressure on Foles than they did against Josh McCown last week, or the Packers could have back-to-back losses at Lambeau Field.

Wallace had a built-in excuse last week because he had no reps with the first team during the week.  This week, the Packers are giving Wallace all of the reps on offense, so there’ll be no excuse.
