As recall elections against eight state Senators approach, the Government Accountability Board is trying to address a large number of campaign mailers that have gone out with wrong information on them. GAB spokesman Reid Magney says the agency has received several complaints about campaign literature that lists the wrong dates for recall elections and absentee ballot applications from outside groups that have the wrong return address information on them.

Complaints have been filed against groups behind some of the mailers, although Magney could not comment on if the GAB will pursue any investigations at this time. He says agency reviews so far have found nothing illegal about fliers and ballot applications being sent to voters by outside groups.

Recall elections against six Republican state Senators are set to take place on August 9th, while two Democratic state Senators will face recalls on August 16th. Magney says voters should rely on their local municipal clerk or a voter information website run by the GAB to determine when and where they should vote in the recalls.

Magney says absentee ballot applications mailed by third party groups could have the wrong return address on them because of computer database errors. Those who send in requests to vote absentee using the applications may end up not getting a ballot at all. For anyone who wishes to vote absentee, Magney says they should contact their local clerk directly.
