The Calumet County District Attorney accused of ‘sexting’ a domestic violence victim has officially resigned. Ken Kratz turned in a letter of resignation Monday morning to Governor Jim Doyle, leaving the post he’s held for the past 18 years.

In a statement, Kratz notes that his professional career has been affected by his personal issues, and it’s caused the people he represents to lose confidence in him. He says he’s receiving treatment and hopes to resume his legal career at some point in time.

Kratz faced calls to resign after copies of text messages were released that show him trying to strike up a sexual relationship with a domestic violence victim, while his office was prosecuting her ex-boyfriend.

Mishandling of the case by regulators caused further outrage, while other women also came forward with more allegations.

The governor had initiated efforts to remove Kratz from office, but those will no longer be needed now that he’s stepped down.
