Ken Kratz intends to resign before he can be removed as Calumet County’s district attorney for accusations of sending sexual text messages. “I’ve had recent contact with Mr. Kratz and he intends on resigning, but the date is not set yet due to medical criteria which may make a determination as to when that specific date will be,” says Robert Craanen, Kratz’ attorney.

Craanen made the announcement this morning during a conference in Chilton discussing removal proceedings.

A complaint was filed last week against the 50-year-old Kratz, after he admitted to sending racy text messages to a domestic abuse victim while prosecuting her ex-boyfriend. Four other women made similar allegations after the first one was made public earlier this month.

Governor Jim Doyle had ordered a public hearing to determine whether Kratz should be removed. It’s likely, but not certain, that Kratz will quit before the hearing is held, making the hearing moot. Commissioner Robert Jambois set the hearing for October eighth. Fifty-year-old Kratz was appointed Calumet County district attorney in 1992 by Governor Tommy Thompson.
