The Sheboygan City Council is calling on Mayor Bob Ryan to resign.  Aldermen voted 14 to 2 in favor of a resolution asking the mayor to resign in the wake of his latest drinking incident.

The vote Monday night followed Ryan’s 10-minute address to the council in which he again apologized for the incident.  Ryan reiterated that he is an alcoholic and struggles with the disease every day.  He said he is successful 99 percent of the time.  He assured the council that if it happens again he will resign, but he made it clear he’s not ready to resign yet and will continue to lead the city.  However, it was to no avail, as the council voted in favor of resignation.

Aldermen Hammen and Matichek cast the only dissenting votes.  Council President Eric Rindfleisch said the council will take whatever steps it can to remove the mayor including a removal hearing, which would require a citizen complaint which has yet to be filed, or recall.
