Ben Sheets went the distance today, leading the Milwaukee Brewers to a 7-1 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers at Miller Park.
Sheets faced 29 hitters, two over the minimum and retired 22 straight hitters during one stretch until former Brewer Brady Clark doubled in the 9th to end the streak. Sheets settled for a complete game two-hitter, facing two over the minimum in winning his 3rd opening day start. He's now 3-0 in five opportunities on opening day. The complete game is the 12th of Sheets' career.
Ben Sheets got plenty of support offensively. Shortstop J.J. Hardy collected three hits and Bill Hall homered in the Brewers win. The Brewers scored runs in each of the first four innings, including a three-run fourth and they knocked Derek Lowe out midway through.
The Brewers will send Chris Capuano to the mound in game two of the series tomorrow night in game two of the series at Miller Park.
