Coming off of perhaps his worst outing of the season, Ben Sheets turned in a pretty good effort on Wednesday night at Miller Park. Sheets worked 7 solid innings, allowed 1 run on six hits and struck out 7 in the Brewers 7-1 win over Colorado, sending the Rockies to their fifth straight defeat. The Brewers pulled to within 5 1/2 games of the National League Central division lead and are 4 1/2 games behind the wild card leading Cincinnati Reds. Sheets relied mostly on his fastball and curveball to control the Rockies. Prince Fielder and Tony Graffinino each drove in a pair of runs to lead the Brewers to their 2nd straight win.
