Appleton police shot a man on the city’s south side Thursday night, after he allegedly drew a gun on officers. Sergent Dave Lund says the man was taken to a local hospital with multiple gunshot wounds. Green Bay police are investigating.

Lund says officers were looking for a shoplifting suspect from a business on S. Oneida Street, around 7 p.m. He says they spotted a man who matched the description of the suspect, in the 1300 block of S. Monroe Street.

Lund says the man wouldn’t follow police orders to drop the gun, and they opened fire because he posed an immediate threat to them. The police department is holding a news conference later this morning to provide an update on the case.
