One of the 11 people who walked away without serious injury after the planes they were riding in collided in mid-air says the ordeal was “surreal”, adding that she does expect to go skydiving again. Sarah Perrine said Saturday was like any other day when she and 10 others ventured out for a day of skydiving. That evening as she was preparing to make another of her more than 400 jumps she said she saw her plane approach and collide with the lead plane. “I don’t know how it happened, but we ended up colliding with the first plane, and I was kind of caught between the two planes for a second,” she said.
In the collision, Perrine’s hand became lodged between the wings of the aircraft, which is where the fuel is stored. She recalls seeing the explosion. “I remember feeling the heat from the explosion and smelling that,” she said. Upon coming loose she said in free-fall she attempted to track away from debris. Perrine and her fellow skydivers are in New York City to appear on NBC’s Today Show and to tell their stories on NBC’s Dateline program.
