Walworth County voters may get a chance to vote for a smaller board. A recent state law allows county residents to reduce board size by petitioning and putting the question on a ballot. That will happen this Spring in Walworth County, if at least 2100 of the 2600 signatures gathered are verified.

Bret Strong with the Walworth County chapter of Citizens for Responsible Government says residents are dissatisfied with the level of spending by county government. Fewer hands on the tiller, suggests Strong, may make a difference; his group has collected signatures in favor of a Spring ballot initiative to decrease the size of the county board from 25 to 11.

Strong says that, in addition to decreasing the size of the board, his organization would like to see the post of county board administrator, currently selected by the board, become an elected position.
