With warnings to stay indoors during the upcoming snow storm; what if you have nowhere to go? Homeless shelters in Madison expect to be busy tonight as up to a foot of snow may drop in the area. Steven Schooler, Executive Director of Porchlight Inc. is gearing up for expected high traffic.

Schooler says with their three shelters, they should be able to provide for everyone in need, which may exceed 130 people. Each year, roughly 3,500 Madison residents experience homelessness, according Porchlight’s website.

Meanwhile a man sparing for change stands in the snow at Peace Park on State Street. It is one of only two legal zones for pan handing in the city’s downtown. Dennis, who looks to be in his 40’s, is a lone figure in what is a sometimes crowded spot for such activity.

Dennis says he definitely sees people being generous in the holiday season.
