Paul Soglin is Madison’s Mayor once again. Soglin was sworn in this week for a third time to lead the state’s second largest city, after defeating Dave Cieslewicz. Soglin says Madison is facing a huge budget challenge. “The worst case scenario shows us with a gap somewhere between 15 and 18 million dollars,” said Soglin. “Obviously that can be reduced through the legislature rejecting some of Governor Walker’s proposals. But part of it we’re going to have to do at our end.” Soglin says that may entail a reduction in services or “putting in new systems and creating efficiencies.” Solgin is already Madison’s longest serving mayor with 14 years in office in the 1970s, ’80s, and ’90s. Also this week, state Representative Joe Parisi was sworn in as Dane County Executive, succeeding Kathleen Falk who held the post for 14 years.
