The oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico generated some fears that it would result in rising prices at the pump, but that doesn’t appear to have happened.

Beth Mosher with AAA Wisconsin says prices for fuel have been holding relatively steady over the past month. The statewide average has been hovering around $2.80 for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline.

Mosher says it’s been a long time coming, after oil prices spike unusually high last October and over the winter. In recent months, she says they have started to come back down again.

Prices are expected to remain relatively stable in the coming months, although Mosher says hurricane season could push them up. If a major storm disrupts refineries along coastal areas, she says it could have a domino effect on supplies across the country and result in a price spike.
