The Iraq mission isn’t completely accomplished for some of our National Guard members. While combat troops are leaving Iraq, some Wisconsin soldiers still have a job to do. Lieutenant Colonel Jackie Guthrie, spokesperson for the Wisconsin National Guard, says state soldiers and airmen are still deployed, or soon to be deployed. “We have an engineer battalion in-country and an aviation battalion en route,” Guthrie says. Over the last seven years, between 4 and 5 thousand men and women from Wisconsin Guard units have been deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan and other locations, in support of the global war on terror. The engineering and aviation units currently deployed number about 100 personnel, according to Guthrie.
