Jerome Listecki has been installed as the 11th Archbishop of Milwaukee. Leaders of the Catholic Church from around the country were in Milwaukee for the event.  Dozens of bishops and four cardinals attended the invitation-only service Monday that filled the one-thousand seated Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist.

In Listecki’s homily, he stressed the need to protect marriage and family life, and sacrifice for the truth.

A native of Chicago, Listecki served as auxiliary bishop there before his installation as bishop of LaCrosse in 2005.  The 60-year-old is a lawyer and retired lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves. Listecki says knew he wanted to be a priest since he was about three years old.

Listecki says he may be more outspoken on political issues than his predecessor, Timothy Dolan, who was installed last April as archbishop of New York.
