A complaint filed against the Wisconsin Rapids mayor for violating a state election law will be investigated by a special prosecutor. Mayor Zach Vruwink is accused of illegally posting a photo of his marked primary ballot on his Facebook page in February, which is a felony under Wisconsin statutes.

District Attorney Craig Lambert has decided to have a special prosecutor from outside Wood County investigate the case. He says he has personal and family relationships with Wisconsin Rapids workers, and doesn’t want his decisions viewed as politically motivated.

So far, that special prosecutor has not been named.

The complaint was issued less than a week before the election.
