The return of spring weather is also bringing back some flood concerns for parts of Wisconsin.

Flood warnings are currently in effect for seven western Wisconsin counties along the Mississippi River. Those include Buffalo, La Crosse, Pepin, Pierce, St. Croix, Trempealeau, and Vernon counties.

The Mississippi River is expected to crest later this week, although Lori Getter with Wisconsin Emergency Management says the Badger State should be spared any serious flood damage. She says only minor flooding is expected toward the weekend, and no homes are currently believed to be in danger.

The rising waters are the result of thawing snow and spring rains. Getter says relatively mild weather through March has helped to prevent any serious problems. Still, she says some areas have been putting up sandbags as a preventative measure.

Elsewhere in the state, Getter says areas along the Fox and Chippewa Rivers have seen water levels rise, but only minor flooding has been reported.
