St. Norbert College logoThe St. Norbert College men’s hockey team earned an at-large berth into the NCAA Division III Men’s Ice Hockey Tournament and will host Augsburg College in a national quarterfinal game.

The Green Knights (23-3-2) and Auggies (17-8-2) both received a first-round bye in the 11-team tournament.  The game will be played at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 19 at the Cornerstone Community Center in De Pere.  The winner will advance to the NCAA Division III Frozen Four on March 25-26 at Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid, N.Y.

This tournament appearance is St. Norbert’s 16th, with the Green Knights also making appearances in 1997-99, 2002-08 and 2010-14.

The Green Knights are 25-11-1 all-time in the NCAA tournament and won the 2008, 2011, 2012 and 2014 national championships.  St. Norbert is 16-2 in its last NCAA Tournament games dating back to 2008.

Augsburg is making its third NCAA Division III Tournament appearance.  The Auggies played in the tournament in 1984 and 1998.  Augsburg is 3-4-1 all-time in the tournament and advanced to the Frozen Four in 1998.

St. Norbert and Augsburg last met on Nov. 2, 2012, which was a 3-2 overtime win for the Green Knights at Augsburg Ice Arena in Minneapolis.

Pointers earn at-large selection

UW-Stevens Point also received an at-large berth into the field and also gets a first-round bye.

The Pointers will face N-C-H-A champion Adrian of Michigan in the quarter-finals on March 19th.
