John Carroll University scored 27 points in the second quarter and rolled to a 40-3 victory over St. Norbert College in the Global
Ireland Football Tournament on Friday.
John Carroll quarterback Mark Myers, who transferred from the University of Pittsburgh, set a school record with 457 passing yards in his first appearance with the Blue Streaks. Myers completed 30 of 43 passes with five touchdowns and one interception.
St. Norbert managed to lead 3-0 after the 1st quarter, following Randy Hill’s 39-yard field goal. But that’s all Jim Purtill’s Green Knights would manage to score offensively. The Knights tallied just 90 yards of total offense on 59 plays. QB James Tringali made his first collegiate start, completing 12 of 25 for 48 yards and one interception.
Friday’s game was the first NCAA Division III regular-season game played in Europe since 1992.
