Election observers from the Government Accountability Board were in Racine County for this week’s primary election, watching how the polls operated and how the poll workers were trained.
This came after questions were raised, along with complaints, about the June recall election in the 21st Senate District. G.A.B. Spokesman Reid Magney says the bottom line goal is to help municipalities prepare for the big November election.
“I think there have been issues around the state that have been borne out in some of the reports we’ve received,” says Magney. “We think it’s important to go back-to-basics in our training and make sure everyone is on the same page.”
Magney says their observations from Racine County may also prove useful, should issues arise in other parts of the state.
The five-member group, headed by G.A.B. Director Kevin J. Kennedy, split up and observed polling places in the city of Racine, but also visited polling places in Burlington, Caledonia, Mount Pleasant, Rochester and Sturtevant.
